The project involves the construction of a complex for residential development and hotel, located in the district of Vermicelli, Rende (CS).

The whole area, with a strong rural character, located east of the university complex, acts as a hinge between the future development of the University of Calabria (designed by Arch. Gregotti) and the suburban area Makes-Montalto.
The site will be enhanced by the presence of the "Piazza Vermicelli", a complex to serve the University. It will consist of a movie theatre, a reading room for students, a radio and television inter-centre, a restaurant, some business services and a square for leisure activities.

The project has faced several challenges in order to build an urban concept which is both habitable and self-sufficient. Anticipating strong future population growth, the architect has proposed the integration of the only existing road network with the construction of new roadways that will enhance the accessibility of the area east Arcavacata-Rocchi with the rest of the city. Considering the varied conformation altitude of the place, we have identified two groups of intervention, one hilly and the other flat, which are distributed on the different building structures:

Residential hotels
Occupying the bottom of the hills and running parallel to the main road network, these hotels are structured in symmetrical geometric shapes and opening onto the collective services space. The planivolumetric conformation of the complex is arranged in the shape of an amphitheatre open to the city. The whole complex is defined by six factory buildings, lying along the contour lines and linked via walkways and driveways.

Hotel and Health clinic
The hotel and the Health clinic are situated at the top of the hill. They are mirror images of each other, with the hotel facing south and the clinic facing east. Each building consists of two parts, the core hotel (or clinic)and core residential services supporting them. The hotel facilities and social services are in the shape of an arc, are mainly driven by the need to insert a non-invasive structure in harmony with the natural contours of the site. Particular attention has been paid to the use of some eco-friendly materials to better ensure the sustainability of the work.

Multipurpose building
The multi-purpose complex will be located below the residential hotel complex and  will host a shopping centre, picnic areas for socializing, gym, restaurant, spa and related functional areas and small facilities for outdoor physical activities . It will consist of two buildings, divided by functions but identical in form, united centrally by a steel cover in woven wire mesh held by steel struts. This cover will act as a long urban walkway, connecting the various enclosed spaces with open spaces.
