Parco St. Borromeo

Architect: Sabrina De Caro
Performance: Preliminary design
Client: City of Rende
Location: Via Rossini, Rende (CS) Italy
Year of Design: 2009

The idea behind the creation of the park was the result of the development of the area and the construction of residential buildings, the new centre of the Municipality of Rende and the Cathedral of St. Borromeo.

The park then completes the new urban design of the city contributing to the uniform implementation of the same. It becomes a friendly, functional space, with numerous roadways paved with natural cobblestones and a long stretch of water, in which the fifth building is reflected. This vast expanse of water with its daring chromaticism, the linearity of the walkways and the sinuosity of architectural volumes connect the large park to the groups of surrounding buildings.

It was constructed within the small green spaces built on undulating geometries and patterns, interrupted by clumps of trees. There is a measured relationship between the various components, resulting in a perfect linking of spaces and transition elements. Thus the interplay of these elements and the expanse of green water connects the architectural presence and geometries of the outer band of the road.
